Pietersite is a relatively new discovery in the mineral world and is named after its discoverer, Sid Pieters, who first came across this mineral in Namibia. It is a brilliant and captivating stone that seems to be almost alive with its captivating chatoyancy. The appearance of this stone is like that of fire and ice. Some specimens feature a deep blue colouring whilst others are orange and red like fire. Whichever colour, the effect of the minerals together is almost holographic. It is sometimes referred to as the tempest stone, harnessing the powers of a storm, discharging negative energy and restoring one to a sense of calm.
