This particular specimen of turquoise was sourced from the Sleeping Beauty mine in Arizona, USA. Now closed, this mine was considered to have some of the highest quality turquoise in the world.. Turquoise is an ancient stone steeped in history. Used for millennia to symbolise immortality from the ancient civilizations of the Aztecs to the rule of Kings, it was said to bring the wearer protection and luck.  Turquoise jewellery dating back to 5000BC has been found in the middle east. The Egyptians used turquoise regularly in their jewellery with the death mask of Tutankhamen adorned with the stone. Extensive historical associations aside, this stone is said to be highly protective, especially for travelers and a good stone to promote leadership and alleviate anxiety.
